JimmyVe: Found in my out world (8. Mai 2008 23:07)

This is what i found in my out world. ( Messor barbarus )

I think it is a queen (dead). There are no other young queens or males in this colony, so it is a little wired. :)

looks like an un-developed queen, the wings are still 'packed up', strange to have only one, or maybe its strange to have any at all at this point in your colonies life? lol who knows

Probably the ants produced a new queen by mistake, but was under-developed due to lack of proper nourischment and died or was killed. Or isn't it a male? I can't see the head, it's too dark.

thats is pretty mad jimmy, can you see inside the nest to see whats happening?

miszt: (9. Mai 2008 10:42)

definitly not a male, it has large mandibles, head & thorax

It is a queen, for that i'm sure. ;) Could be, that she was raised by mistake. ;) The colony is about (i'm not good at this) 250 workers strong. But like i said it is the only one. If they where producing queens or males there should be much more.

Yes i can look inside the nest Steve. (in the dutch part there are more pictures of this colony)
