my queen with her first cocoon.

JimmyVe: (12. Mai 2008 15:08)

She only has one cocoon ? Where is the rest from the brood ?

ratgreen: (12. Mai 2008 16:24)

well i did get her from a queen(26/4/08),i think she has been eating them due to stress, as i have been looking at her too much, as i have fed her alot so she shouldnt be hungry. so i'm going to stop looking at her so much now. why jimmy how many cocoons did you get to start off with?

JimmyVe: (13. Mai 2008 15:40)

26/04... hm, normally she should have workers already, i'm afraid she is not fertilized. The one cocoon could be a male (not fertilized queens produce males).

They normally start of with a lot of brood, 3-5 cocoons and larva and eggs. I think (has been a while) mine had 4 workers the first month.

ratgreen: (13. Mai 2008 16:44)

well it has only been 14 days or so, from an egg so are you sure? as i though it took a whole month for them to become workers? i really do hope that she is fertilized, but i have a feeling that you are right as at the moment there are only that cocoon and 4 other small larvea :( how can i tell if it is male, will it have wings and be quite small?
thanks for info and i will keep you informed.

JimmyVe: (13. Mai 2008 19:59)

Yes if it is a male it will have wings. I could be wrong... we just have to wait and see until this cocoon hatch.
