Hey Wedge,
how do you go about with the flying ants? Dont they leave the island?
Id feel better if that setup was covered... Crematogaster are known to nest inside houses too, and i would never rule out incestous reproduction.

Hi there,

well it's quite strange, but my alates like to stay home! I see them every few weeks, and there's always some winged and wingless alates walking alongside the other ants. Even though my house is warm, the alates are just dopey, and they don't bother flying anywhere. I know it seems odd, but mine just stay put, and have done for nearly 9 months! I'm sure one or two of them fly around when I'm asleep of course, but we find them on the sofa in the morning, just verrry slowly walking around.

I don't know what you mean by incestuous breeding (my colony does of course practice incest, otherwise it would be dead in 8 weeks) but I've read that my tropical ants wont survive outside in the wilds of the UK.

You could say you are lucky :) still i think it is better to be careful, normally they would not survive in nature (of the UK) but better to prevent than to heal.
