Hi people,
Here a little video I created. It follows the development of my colony over the past 1,5years. Also I gives a nice update on the state of my current colony and set-up. I'm really happy with my colony as they seem to grow fast. They are actually trying to expand their nest by cutting through the ytong (which is quite impressive).
Have fun!

Hi,
great footage, thank you for sharing.
best regards
Andy
thanks, you're welcome
That's a great vid! I just ordered a queen of this species, gonna take photos every month so I can see the nest develop.
I've got a Messor structor, they develop really fast, which is what i love! Can you tell me in the first few seconds you left their test tube open so they can scavage for food? And how big is your basin?
I kept them in the first stages of development in a small aquarium a bought at the lokal pet shop. (15x25x15cm). Later I took them in a little bit larger basin with a small ytong nest (see also my other footage on youtube for specs). With the latest upgrade they live outside the basin in a large ytong nest, still connected to the old basin.
Indeed I left it open so I could provide them with food (in the first stages only sugar water, some fruitflies).
Currently I am feeding mealworms, sugarhoney water, lots of seeds, baby chicks, moths, flies, other meat & fruits

That is really great! Can you tell me how do you keep them from escaping?
Hi. I used Fluon in the outworld. It's available in the antstore. The main ytong nest is totally wrapped in plastic, no escape possible. However you'll see in this forum I already have made a new nest, even larger. This one has less protection but I hope this won't be a problem.
