McK: Crematogaster scutellaris madness (2. Jul 2009 12:20)

Ok, maybe the colony is getting a bit too big.

For your information, this was the colony about 9 months ago ;)

I'm gonna have to move this colony, but I don't know how lol

Perhaps you should consider culling them a bit? It's going to have to be them that decide to move, so you either cull them dramatically or build some sort of super habitat for them and get the conditions perfect.

Let us know the plan.

I don't know yet, they only thing that bothers me about this species is that they are masters in escaping.

ahh tell me about it McK.. ive given up trying to contain them.. it near enough impossible unless you have a moat. But then my colony is tiny compared to yours.. they must need a lot of feeding.

The good thing is that these little guys eat nearly everything :D

The hardest think of such big colonies is cleaning up (in my opinion) ;) They are always all over the place in the out world so it almost impossible to clean up.

Very nice colony btw. Good luck with moving them. ;)

That is really impressive, but with them numbers your probably going to need to increase the tank 3x or start feeding the workers less, nature will take its course if you limit food, survival of the fittest, a little bit cruel however :( .

I suppose if you wanna move them you could cool them down so they slow down then use an Aspirator to suck them up. But meh, I have no experiance with a colony this size, let alone moving one..
