What camera do you use to take these photos skippy...the detail is unreal!
It means that they need rest, don't bother them every day, especially the queen. If she is in a y-tong don't go and look every day. Vibrations yes, meaning, moving them allot ore loud noise (music, shouting). But no ants like much vibrations ore to be bothered much. :)
hmmm dont think thses ants really would settle at all in my enviroment, not sure now tho :-k
as long as u didnt try what im doing ul be fine i think alex, That is dont just buy a queen.. get a few workers with eggs.. as for seeds i believe they go for just about any kind of small seed.. take a look in ur local pound shops they usualy sell bird seed and its nice n small :D
I didn't know that Messor barbarus could be so hard to keep  . Messor barbarus were the third species of ant I ever kept and it was just a queen. So, as if they are trying to dissagree, I now have a lovely colony that is still going strong, even though I moved them, forcefully, about three or four times lol  .
That is good for you Phasmid ;), but yes they are a bit difficult to keep than most people think. They are not that hard, only if you start with a queen only, looks like you have golden hands. ;)
I wish you good luck with them.
Hi guys
My queen decided to move yesterday evening. But to be honest it looked more like that the workers persuaded her to do so. :D Anyway, the water in the last year's tube went dry so they moved to a new one. I was there to take some photos and here is the best one in my oppinion. The first attempt wasn't successful tho. She was unable to find the entrance to the small tube. :? Nevertheless, I got my photo I was waiting for all evening and later on in the night they moved successfully. :D
Very nice Mpir :D
Nice pic :) that entrance of the nest is very small, two majors can't pass each other.

Well, actually it is not an entrance. It is only a conecting tube from one basin to the other. Glass tube where the colony is located now is much bigger and wider.
