Depending on the species, but most lasius species queens can have a abdomen like termite queens after years of egg-laying-eating-laying experience..

wow thatsbig cuz termite queens are huge lol (abdomen)
still need to see that then

Kale^^: (26. Jun 2008 14:53)

i've seen some pictures, i'll see if i can find one now..

I Guess to older queen is the one in the tube with only one cocoon ? Not ? Is that all the brood she has ? I'm not sure but it looks like she is not fertilized than (can't say it for a 100% sure). The cocoon is probably a male.

I dont know, i found her under a rock maybe 5 days ago, only found 2 cocoons in her nest.

srry ashhad1, couldn't find the pic.

ashhad1: (26. Jun 2008 21:00)

Ah its ok i never really asked u to find any pics
Fingers crossed its a worker in the cocoon not a male

The cocoon is pretty dark now, i'm quite sure she/he will hatch soon :) I'm able to see some shapes of the ant inside the cocoon and the abdomen looks like it's worker's. Can't be sure tho.

Lasius Niger colony. Queen chamber :)

Wow the ants really made it easy for u to see their queen lol
Nice picture, u can see queens eyes

Kale^^: (27. Jun 2008 13:25)

I took over 30 photos of their chamber with my camera, almost all of them had reflections, or shaken a bit, or too dark.. only this one was good enough for me :)

Yes, i can see the ants well, i'm happy i didnt cover them when they were in their test tube :) I can't see as much detail as in this picture with naked eye..

We will have to wait until it hatches, but i'm thinking it is a male, i hope (for you) that i'm wrong. ;)
