My colony also gets verry stressed of direct light. They start running all directions and the queen even go out of the test tube, the same with heavy fibrations.
@Mpir: This ytong was made by SKippy and it´s patneted technic of high quality. We can´t show more than just formicarium, because we don´t want to lose originality of Skippy´s idea, others coud make this special ytong for commercial use.... Sorry :P

this is not that type , picture of that ytong nest is on this forum ... , only formicarium which I am only making on is secret :P
-but it is true there is some quality , I have it for 2 months and it is not dirty yet , color is OK and ants like it
Do you give them living flies??
Yes, if the colonies are large enough i give them some living flies, once in a while. Than they have something to do. ;) (hunt for there food) Really nice to see.
Living flyes? no ... possibly died , because my mother killing them a lot on window (they flying to our home sometimes) or in kitchen , and everytime she asking me if I want a dead fly :) , so my ants have fresh killed flies everyday :D
I gave my Myrmica rubra colony one time a large living fly. They grabed the leggs of the fly so it coudn't fly and they ate it allive.
Becouse of the slow death i think i won't give them again a living fly :P ..
