Had this queen for a while now, came from Malaysia I believe, best guess is Solenopsis, although was told it culd be a Pheidole, however I dont think it is...

fraid my battery died on this shot, so cant get a better one till tomorow...

how big is she

looks alot like a Camponotus Queen to me, but correct me if im wrong

miszt: (21. Jan 2008 00:38)

to small for Camponotus I think, and a few other features which say shes not, cant remeber what, ran thru some taxon lists a few months ago, waitin for workers really, best way to work it out i guess

shes about 12mm long, allot more slender than she looks in that pic, very large gaster

my camponotus punctulatus queen is very small, shes about 10 -11 mml
the smallest camponotus i have ever seen :S

I have a Camponotus queen that is only 9mm large. (ore small ;) )
So the size don't give her away. ;)
Maybe a better picture of the head.
Don't think it Solenopsis .

miszt: (21. Jan 2008 20:10)

her facial features, and petiole/thorax features, suggest she is solenposis...but I'll post up sum better pictures asap

paty: (21. Jan 2008 20:38)

its solenopsis for sure. had 10 queens which looks the same and they were from malaysia.. its solenopsis invicta or geminnata...

JimmyVe: (21. Jan 2008 21:10)

My quess is ... it is some Pheidole , or something like that , maybe som solenopsis too , dont know , there is so much species in Malaysia which names I never seen ... but 100 percent Myrmecinae , because there are 2 segments btw thorax and gaster ;)

Also I think she is a myrmicine ants...but would need some other photos (gaster and head), for identify it...
