jack: found on the floor. (26. Aug 2007 10:57)

hi everyone! i was just walking down the road when i noticed that there were a lot of queen ants situated along the road aswell as others when i was walking down them. now as i collect colonys i thought that it was the perfect cahnce to grab the queens. now ive looked at them carefully and noticed that one of the queen ants (well thats what i think it is) have dark red legs and mandables with the tip of its head being crimson in colour.

please could anyone help me to identify this i would be very grateful if you can... thanks a lot :D

I found one like that as well in my bathroom it was still winged. Was your ones body slim?

miszt: (26. Aug 2007 11:47)

sounds like some kind of Formica, can u post a pic? do they have wings still? if so put them back where u found them, coz they arnt ready to leave there nests

Incidently where did u find them? Formica are never found in Cities, so i assume ur in the countryside?

might be formica rufa if so they are almost impossible to keep as they build huge piles of pine needles and can have hundreds of queens in one nest and hundreds of thousands of workers.

I returned mine to the wild because it had wings. I'm in a town very close to the countryside.

It is not winged And I found a different queen I think some sort off tetramonium or something in my backgarden and it looked like one off the colony skippy sent to me so i think i know what it is
