cybrus: Soldier ant from portugal (15. Mai 2011 19:41)

Hi,

I've found this ant soldier in Coimbra, Portugal.
The red coin (plastic 0.50€) is a reference for the size of it. I would like to know from what specie is this soldier.

Thanks in advance,

This is, as far as I can see, Camponotus cruentatus. It's not a soldier, but a major.

Thanks a lot !

I just can't find a nest of this ones. It's realy hard, but should be easier given their size. Some hints of common sites?

Greetings, Joni
