thomie: Ant Queen from North Italy (10. Aug 2009 20:41)

Hello,

During my vacation in Italy I've found a couple of Queens.
A lot of Queens where walking everywhere!
First i decided not to catch a Queen, but when i saw a Queen cutting of her wings i had to catch a few Queens.

Here are two pictures of an Queen. I must say on the picture it looks like an Lasius n iger Queen to me, however when i cached the Queen i haven't saw an Lasius n iger worker (only workers which where larger). The Queens are around 1 Cm.

Yes, it's Lasius niger ;)

Ok thx. The strange thing is that i haven't spot any Lasius Niger colony. Only larger and smaller workers..
I'll wait till the first workers hatch (second check), but when i look at the pictures it looks like Lasius n iger.
I'm going to sell most of the colonies..
