Andrea1992: Lasius... flavus? (2. Jul 2009 13:51)

Hi all,
Two days ago I have found 4 queens, it belongs sure to the L asius, according to me flavus but of they I am not sure...

I have a photo:

Today two queens have already placed of eggs (2 or 3 eggs for queen)

How I must myself be involved with the queens?
To nourish them? Or not?
I can observe them? Or it is better to leave them in peace?
Every how much I can watch them?

Sorry for the great number of questions

It is best if you leave the queen alone as much as you can... just make sure she has a humid nesting possibility (test tube works wonders!) that is kept dark and quiet. The more you look at her the more you disturb her. Some people do nourish their queens and others don't. It is perfectly possible to not feed the queen and grow a successful colony. If you should nourish her... try a small insect (a small fly) and/or some honeywater. Chances are she won't even accept the food.

As for ID... The lighting quality makes it quite impossible to see anything on the pic for me :| .
