ItsJason: Ant or termite? (21. Apr 2009 06:05)

My family was watching NCIS on tv tonight with the doors open (reallllly hot here) when suddenly my mom saw a large bug next to her and freaked. As I am the "bug man" of the family I went over to take it outside, and saw that it is an ant queen or termite. I am still very new at identifying species so I can't really tell which it is, so if anyone could have a go I would appreciate it :)

I can't tell, but I can see why you think it could be either. Can you take a photo of it from the side please?

That is definitely an ant and looks like a formicine to me. Beyond that I have no idea from that picture.

I would say it is an ant... Termites have a much smaller body compared to there wings.

Just a guess
