highered: Very big Asian worker ant (15. Dez 2008 17:34)

My family on holdiay in the roughly Asian area of roughly Malaysia have found two very interesting finds. One is this very big ant (the finger is for the scale) which I have never seen before and one of an ant colony moving home. They look like Diacamma rugosum to me but Antstore's description doesn't say they normally move home, but maybe they did't like their old home. It isn't letting me post the pictures so please go to

to view them. Thanks.

PS I have checked the links again and the first one still works, but not the bottom one. I will replace the bottom when I have time.

I was also thinking that they would be the species you where looking for. (now i could open the first picture) The picture isn't very good but it could be Camponotus gigas if you look at this pictures

do these come in a red variety or are there any large red ants in malaysia? I got bitten by a VERY large red ant in brunei (which is landlocked by east malaysia) one time. It was a pale red.
