nice pictures, You keep them yourself ?
No. I think they have very big colonies for me. I don't have much room for the ants. But I know a couple places where they have big colonies. For example in a riverside where they live on willow trees and poplar trees all along the water and their nest are interconnected. They were one of the first insect in the spring I met there.
Really good pictures, lol. I like those pics a lot.
update:
My queen is still alive, but no eggs jet.
Do you added some eggs and larva to her already? I think it is neccessary for Formica rufa to have larvas in her nest in order to develop some gland of her. Maybe fuliginosus is working the same way.
Hi, i'm sorry i forgot to update this threat.
I worked hard on this queen but i'm afraid she died, a few days ago.
I had put here in a tube with a few Lasius niger workers and cocoons, but the workers kept attacking the queen so i removed them. Then i put a few Lasius flavus workers and cocoons in there. It seems like she was doing okay, the queen and the workers, they where taking care of here, but a few days later she was dead.
Oh no ,sorry to hear that Jimmy!
Lasius fuliginosus is ant very hard to keep and have in formicarium ,I wabter last week for this spec from one antkeeper and he didnt want to sell me it ,because he told me "it is for sciencer" ,so I have not this Lasius too :(
sorry to hear that again Jimmy

In deed they are pretty hard to keep. I was just lucky to catch her, but no luck making a colony of it. If i find one again, i try harder.
Dam Jimmy Im sure next time you find one it will be successful ;)
