highered: Keeping Cataglyphis velox and Odontomachus kuroiwae (16. Jun 2008 14:21)

I have experience keeping Camponotus ligniperda which is level 1. So could I therfore be able to successfully keep Cataglyphis velox and
Odontomachus kuroiwae which are both at level 2 please? What would the differences be please? Eg same temp with a heater as Camponotus ligniperda? Sand/loam mix or humus or soil kept moist for nest? Same food of insects and sugar water? Humidity moderate? etc and what sizes are the workers for these species? Thank you.

Hi highered,
If you run a search on those ants here and in google you'l get all the info you need.

With Odontomachus kuroiwae the ground needs to be damp all the time. The air humidity doesn't necessarily need to be that high but inside the nest it should be quite high as these ants(as with other Odontomachus sp.) rarely seem to drink. With Cataglyphis velox you need a lot of heat to get them active(in my experience), up to 35 degrees celsius in some areas and generally lower nest humidity than average. Hope this helps :).
