ParaPenguin: Pheidole cf. indica (9. Aug 2015 00:14)

Hey everyone, do any of yous have any information about this species? From the description in the store it sounds like just what I'm looking for but I'm having a lot of trouble finding any further information about it. Any information would be fantastic.

Many thanks

Hey there,

many Pheidole species are very much alike.
Maybe you could tell us what you are searching for and what information you exactly lack. Then we would be probably more likley to help you and more people would be inclined to post.

Kaj

Hi everyone,

I'm considering getting this species, but I haven't found enough info as well. I'd like to ask about the "escape prevention". Is it enough to have fully covered formicarium or is it necessary to keep it in some water basin?

Another thing I'd like to know is the difficulty of having them, in other words, what is the difficult aspect of breeding this particular species?
Also, I'd like to ask you for some tips concerning those ants (favourite food and so on).

I've chosen this exotic species mainly because I don't have the option to arrange the hibernation. If you happen to know any other kind that doesn't require hibernation and is easy to breed, I'd appreciate any further suggestions.

Thanks for all reactions and advice!

Best regards
Samuel

Well in my opinion water would be the worst possible option for those small ants.
A little layer of dust and they can walk on water and you have to change it frequently.

Talkum or oil just works fine for all Pheidole I ever had, which was a lot.

About food they are pretty standard. Any insect will do fine. Small ones will be dragged into the nest and big ones will be hollowed out. And of course sugar/water and honey/water solutions.
