Oecophylla How!

I've seen the photos on your topic in "experience with exotic ants".
One my friend wants to keep one Oecophylla colony, but he says that these ants are more aggressive. What do you say on this?

Wishes for the colony keep

Hey Adam, you have some nice species, I have read your other reports and I would choose much the same if I had the space to keep them all:) I`m very interested to see how you progress with these Oecophylla as there is not much info at all on these ants in the English part of the forum.
Best of luck mate.

Well thankyou for such nice comments. Sphecomyrmex im not so sure on the aggresive level of these ants as i have not kept them before but i will surly let you know wot i find out . SteveUK28 In regards to your question im hoping they dont fall of and recording to the research i have done it would be very hard for them to fall as there use to climbing up trees etc . If it does happen i shall just put them back . :) And Ashton yes i will deffinatly keep intouch with my progress .

Thankyou all

Adam

Very nice ants Adam and i wish you good luck with them.
In a dutch forum i know a guy who keeps them to, the first 2 queens (colonies) he had no luck, they died, reason unknown. Now he has back 2 new colonies and for now they are doing great.
You can look at the pictures here if you want ( Hyperlinks sind nur für registrierte Nutzer sichtbar ) very nice pictures, but you probably don't understand the writings. ;)

(thank you guys for putting the discussion so nicely here and not at the diary. ;))

Hmm, what do you do if they move into the glass tubes and they run out of water? Maybe some plastic tubes would be better, you could fill it from the backside with a fine syringe

Hi steve, i didnt make the branches i just bought them from a pet shop , they are usally used to put in reptile and lizard tanks and are a type of rubber with wire in the middle so they are very bendidble and they look so relistic too . Hi Dr house , i have done alot of reasearch and also worried about this problem , but i have found out that as long as there is a sourch of fresh water for the workers they will fetch the water they need and bring it back in there gasters . Also weaver ants build nests out of leaves and silk , both of which are not that moist and inside the nests it is really dry anyway .
