ive thought about gettin these for a long time.. but every time he has them i dont have the money.. typical.. Id imagine they are much the same as normal messors.. plenty of seeds.. small ones at first like grass.. and maybe a few small insects.. fruit flys.. and as he says.. try some sugar/honey water.. ohh and lots of heat :D

Make sure you take some pics when u get her.. and good luck :D

Yes, mostly keep them the same as other Messor species, only these don't need hibernation. (as it seems) Good luck with them.

Yes, good luck... Keeping a colony from a queen isn´t very easy... Messor, and also some other Myrmicinae aren´t very easy to keep from just a queen.. Good luck :grin:

ive already kept a camponotus ligniperda queen successfully but too awhile to get workers and i had to move my messor queen to another testube as the other one only had a little bit of water left.

@gabranth:
I also ordered one of this Messor spec. queen.
She didt't start producing eggs yet, but I hope she'll start it soon. So, keep waiting ;)

@gabranth: C. ligniperda is somethink very very different than Messor.... You can´t compare Myrmicinae with Formicinae, if you think about keeping of colonies from queens..... :grin:
I think, that keeping a colony for example from some Myrmica species queen, isn´t easy and I also had problems with other species- P. pallidula, Temnothoraxes queens, Messor muticus......
Good luck with her :grin: An put some photos here :D

update my messors eggs have started to turn into small larvae + 2 messor barbarus workers and 3 barbarus pupae and the queens ok. people here say its hard starting a messor colony from a single queen so far its been easy. the last couple of weeks they have been eating fruit flies as well :)

It is in deed very hard to start with a single queen of this species. Seems like you have been lucky or your are doing a great job. ;)

Good luck.

Yes , fine it seems to be easy , but this is one of the most hard period. You have to really feed that Messor queen , because she like to eat brood also in larvae stadium :twisted: ... very often by Myrmecinae
