Taxonomists need access to the relevant decisions made in the past in order to assess them and avoid transmitting errors and misinterpretations; catalogues serve to show this information at a glance. This volume attempts to catalogue all the ants of the world, including the fossil forms, since 1893. (The ant volumes in the authoritative Genera Insectorum series were published between 1910 and 1925, and much has happened in myrmecology since then, making that series outdated for modern needs.) Each entry provides a taxonomic history of the name in question and records all changes of combination and status as well as indications of synonymy and homonymy. (mehr...)
